Sweet tea, not too sweet. This is also one of the best remedies for any situation where the food is too spicy.

Ingredients

  • 5 black teabags
  • ¼ cup to 1/3 cup sugar, depending on your preference
  • Tiny pinch baking soda
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup water for later
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 orange
  • Bunch of ice
  • Optional: up to 1 cup fresh or bottled orange juice and up to 3 tbsp fresh or bottled lemon juice

Directions

  1. Boil 4 cups water. Put the teabags and the tiny pinch of baking soda in a teapot, large pot, or heatproof pitcher, and pour the water over them. Cover and wait 12 minutes.
  2. Take out the tea bags
  3. Stir in the cup of water
  4. Stir in the sugar
  5. Let it cool for an hour
  6. While that cools wash and thinly slice an orange and a lemon into half moons and put those in a container in the fridge for later. Optionally chop only half of each and squeeze the remainder through a cupped hand to catch the seeds, into the tea. And/or add the bottled or fresh orange and lemon juice.
  7. Refrigerate the tea in a pitcher
  8. When ready to serve, layer ice cubes, orange and lemon slices, and possibly some fresh mint in a large glass and pour the tea over

Personal notes:
You could also layer in some other fruits. Some ones that would be good thinly sliced and layered with the ice include strawberries, pineapple, passionfruit seeds, mango, peach, plums, apples, pears, nectarines, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, kiwis, cherries, grapes, guava, limes, papaya, pomegranate seeds. But start with just lemon and orange.
