Spider Herb Bed

So this one’s been in the works for a while. Here’s how my husband and I made it. He dug a pit about 3 and a half feet wide and about 6-8 inches deep, or about a meter and 7 cm wide and about 15-20 cm deep. I then roll/walked over the plastic trash can with drilled holes in it that we’ve been using as a compost bin, and with his help dumped the whole thing in there and spread it out with a shovel. Over that went about 3 inches, roughly 8 cm, of potting soil, then over that a couple handfuls of cedar shavings. I laid a tree ring type of concrete blocks just inside the dug-out portion. Then I started tying on cotton string (it’s actually kitchen string) to opposing concrete blocks to first make a wagon wheel type design, and then to make a spiderweb by tying in the middle of each spoke. This is more than decorative as it is intended to prevent neighborhood cats from using this as their litterbox. For each knot you know the square knot and its rhyme? Right over left and left over right makes knots neat tidy and tight? I did a variation of that for most of these that I found is a bit more secure. It goes right over left, right over left, right over left and tighten, left over right and tighten, right over left and tighten. Now what I have to do is trim these strings and plant some herb seeds, water at least once every two days by jamming my thumb into the tip of the hose as we do not yet have a fancy mist type hose attachment, and hope for the best. Honestly, already-started herb plants would do a lot better in this setup but that’s what I got.
