Shoe Liners

You know those thin foam shoe liners you can get pretty cheaply that help with foot comfort for about a week or two til they start to fold in on themselves? Here’s my attempt to deal with that problem. I bought the liners and followed the included template to cut out the foam to size, checking periodically for fit by stuffing the foam into the shoes and attempting to walk. If the foam you find doesn’t have a template, you can also trace around your foot directly onto the foam using a permanent marker and then do the same process. Supplies are pictured except for two important ones. Rubber gloves, which I used to stuff the shoe liners into the shoes and smash them onto the bottom in one non-doubled layer as best I could, and newspaper or scrap paper with which to line the floor to protect it from drips, which I did not use and wish I had. I cleaned up the glue drips while they were still wet with paper towels then baby wipes by the way. The glue type is workshop PVA, kind of like school glue but stronger. Please note that there are products on the market specifically for gluing shoe parts together and they would probably work better than this but I was impatient and also had this glue on hand already. After I took this picture I stuffed the small rocks into the toe boxes and the large ones at the heel to weigh it down somewhat. If I had more rocks I would have used them so more areas of the foam would get “clamped” into the shoe sole by gravity. I’m setting these shoes aside to dry for several days so the glue can cure fully.
